Does PropertyTax-Help.com cover all of the United States or just Texas?

At this time, Property Tax Help is a web site dedicated to helping Texas property owners better understand property taxes in the State of Texas. We cannot assist owners of property outside of Texas. Nor can we assist Texas owners of personal property that falls under the jurisdiction of the Tax Assessor, such as Mobile Homes.

 

Do you pay property tax off the appraised value in texas?

When your local county appraisal district determines your appraised value, they will then apply the total of the individual tax rates to that appraised value. From that, they deduct any exemptions, such as homestead or agriculture.

Do you cover all of Texas?

Yes, if you live in any of the counties in Texas, such as Bexar, Bowie, Collin, Dallas, or Harris County, or in any city such as Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio or any other city or county in Texas.

 

Does PropertyTax-Help.com offer legal or accounting services?

No, should you be looking for property tax help and am in need of legal or accounting help, please locate an Attorney or Accountant in your area. However, when dealing with your local Texas Tax Assessor generally you do not need to engage a local Attorney or Accountant.

 

I understand I can use a company to represent me before the Tax Assessor, can you explain?

In the State of Texas, you can either represent yourself before the Tax Assessor or use the services of a company that acts as your agent that has the experience in fighting property taxes. Generally, companies will charge 50% of the tax savings as their fee. As an example if you have a home that was appraised at $100,000 and the Tax Assessor assessed the new value at $120,000. If your agent by protesting before the county tax assessor is able to get the value lowered to $110,000 there is a $10,000 savings or if in your part of Texas the property tax rate is 3%, this means that you would save $300. The fee is generally then $150. There are some good firms and then there are some that are just better at marketing. If you choice to go this direction for help, please do some research. If you do not want to put any time or energy in lowering your property taxes yourself, then using a firm such as this makes sense. But we have found that for very little effort, you are able to do a better job at getting your property taxes lowered.
